I absolutely LOVE working with the Boydston Family! I believe this is my fourth or fifth time to work with them. They were my FIRST wedding to ever shoot, so they have a super awesome place in my heart. Delsa and Matthew have been together for YEARS! I am so excited to finally be able to say they are MR & MRS!! I met Delsa five years ago in Austin and fell in love with her instantly. She has got to be one of the sweetest, happiest, craziest girls I know. When Delsa asked me if I would photograph their wedding... I was thrilled and so honored. And, when she told me it was going to take place in the Dominican Republic... I was ecstatic! Photograph one of my favorite friend's weddings AND go to a tropical paradise... WIN!

I HAD THE CAMERA TURNED ON ME...

Every now and then the worst happens... and yesterday was one of those days. I had to have my photo taken. AGGGHHHH!!!! For some people, this is no big deal. They get ready, the smile, they look awesome, and they go about their day. For me... it's a completely different story. I have to get my mind wrapped around the idea. I have to mentally prepare myself for the situation at hand. There's a bit of "psyching myself out" that must take place... (think me in a hooded robe and Rocky theme music blaring) But then... when the actual shoot begins, the worst of worst happens... I start to sweat and laugh uncontrollably out of nervousness. And, it's not the pretty, flirty laughter... it's the panic-stricken, I look like I am convulsing laughter. Not ideal for photos. Luckily, I had Erik Moore shooting me and Jen Hoover doing my hair and makeup... and acting as a sort of jester to take my mind off of how uncomfortable I was. Between the three of us, we were able to get several shots where I didn't look completely uncomfortable. (Thank goodness!) Here are a few of my favorites from the day. I hope you like.

I am so thankful to be able to work with Jen Hoover on a regular basis. She is so super talented... and SO much fun. Seriously, this is how much fun we have every time we work together. Love her!

Just in case no one's told you today how freakin amazing you are I thought I would. Now first of all you know I am a critic, and I'm missing the censor chip... that being said I bow down to you... M, I have worked with photographers and DP's for ages now and I can always find flaws.... how is it that in a photo session you managed to nail to perfection 95% of all images and the only reason it isn't 100 is because of your model... the best of the best I have worked with only manages 50% on a good day. the lighting... FANTASTIC, your eye, UNBELIEVABLE, Composition UNBEATABLE...I am blown away. How you managed to turn your camera into a magic wand is beyond be... I shall just call you fairy godmother from now on. I cannot even begin to tell you how proud of you I am, how in the past few years you have grown leaps and bounds. Girl you have serious talent and I am not blowing smoke. Kuddos, my young friend.

Justin serenaded Lindsey with a song he wrote for her almost three years ago. She didn't know about it this whole time... even though it was his ringtone for her every time she called! How adorable is that?!?

Lindsey and her dad's first dance took a turn for AWESOME when they broke out in a remix of so many fantastic songs including "Single Ladies". Super entertaining!

As of September 15th, I will be heading back to Austin and couldn't be more thrilled. (Just in time for UT football season!! YAY!!) I have been in New York for over a month now, and although I have had a blast spending time with my family, I know I can't make it my home... for now anyways. ROAD TRIP DISCOVERIES { MELISSA GLYNN PHOTOGRAPHY : TEXAS PHOTOGRAPHER }

During this road trip from Austin to Rochester, NY, I had every intention of taking amazing photos along the way. And, just like every other time... I failed miserably. I didn't take a single photo! Wait... I take that back. I took a few, but not with my amazing Nikon D700s... No, no... with my Palm Pre phone. Sad. I know. Most people would kill to have access to the gear that I do and the type of road trip I went on... but I'm not most people I guess. Landscape photography has never been my thing... so, based on this trip, I guess I'm not going to make it my thing any time soon.

One thing I did accomplish on this trip was a lot of thinking... I mean, a LOT! When you're in a car by yourself for a total of 31 hours, you have plenty of time to process things and spend some good ol' quality me-time getting to know yourself again in so many ways. I have put together a list of things I have discovered and/or rediscovered about myself on this journey of mine...

NEW DISCOVERIES

1. I LOVE bridges! I have a crazy fear of heights, but I can't help but get a little giddy every time I approach one of those giant steel bridges. The grandness of the whole thing. The fact that it is strong and safe (hopefully) after so many years of existence. The awesomeness of the rivers underneath. It's so crazy-awesome to watch boats and currents and shoreline activity. I am fascinated with it all. I even found myself being compelled to look over the smallest of bridges as I drove along country highways and interstates. So many small rivers, creeks, old winding country roads, train tracks, and other fantastic finds. I wanted to explore them all!

2. Dr. Laura on XM/Sirius Radio is my new favorite! Listening to her show has got to be one of the most entertaining, educational, and inspiring experiences I've ever had in a car. The two hours she was riding with me flew by! I have to say, I was deeply saddened when I heard her say "Now go do the right thing" for the last time. Luckily, I have access to her every week day from 4p-6p Eastern Time on XM 155 or Sirius 102. That's right... I know exactly which station. Now, go listen if you have the opportunity!

3. Car yoga is a mandatory thing if you are going to be driving more than five hours at a time. There are several different stretches and twists you can do while driving. I might publish a Car Yoga manual one of these days. I think it could be very helpful...

4. Another great XM/Sirius discovery... the 90s radio station. All fantastic hits from my prime time listening era. Just about every song that came on required a "Oh wow! Great song!!" from me. I think XM/Sirius is worth the money just for this station on its own.

5. As I crept closer and closer to the north east, I noticed these rectangular boxes hanging from trees next to the interstate. The first one I saw, I didn't think a thing about it... but then I kept seeing more and more. What are these things? What is their purpose? I need to know the answer to this. If you know... please, do tell.

6. Florence + The Machine. Go listen to "Addicted to Love" and "Drumming Song". I'll go ahead and say you're welcome now.

RE-DISCOVERIES

1. My love for Ray LaMontagne has only gotten stronger after this trip. I literally listened to EVERY cd of his straight through on my last trip from Indiana to New York. I didn't get tired of him for one second. With that being said, if anyone out there knows Mr. LaMontagne, go ahead and send him my way. Free photos for life to whoever delivers.

2. I still hate Mc Donald's. I feel like I get amnesia every time I eat there because I still go back even though I know it's terrible and tastes like cardboard. Maybe they put something in their food to cause amnesia... But I guess I'm glad they do because that was usually my only option for food on those lonely interstates. Well, either that or those rubbery hot dogs at gas stations that have been rotating on the hot dog carousel for who knows how long. So, thank you for your amnesia food, Mc Donald's.

3. Driving in the rain is not my favorite. I drove from Oklahoma City to Nashville which is a 10 hour drive... I believe I spent about 8 of those hours driving in rain. One hour of this drive was basically like driving through a non-stop Niagra Falls. Not fun. Hydroplaning, limited visibility, 18 wheelers driving fast and spraying my car so I couldn't see at all. Needless to say, when I got to Nashville, I needed a BIG drink.

4. I still love Austin. As I drove away from that city, I felt a slight sadness. I know great things lie ahead of me, but I can't help but be sad to leave this fabulous city behind... whether it's for a few months or for good. Time will tell.

Jen Hoover, owner of Pearl Hair & Makeup Studio (located at 2900 West Ave. in Austin), did major magic and made these ladies uber fabulous!!! She is truly a master!! Even better... she is available to be a part of YOUR boudoir session too! Lucky!!

And, last, but definitely not least... my models, Ashley and Amber. These two ladies rocked it out hard-core. I was and am still so impressed with their abilities and beauty!

One of the simplest pleasures in life that I often overlook are flowers. They can bring cheer to anyone and everyone...even if they're not yours. I recently went on a date (that's right... a date) where we had a picnic at Townlake. When I got there, he had an arm full of lillies and daisies waiting for me (MAJOR bonus points). The best part though was making the walk back to my car with the flowers in tow. I watched as almost every single woman who came across my path smiled a sincere smile of appreciation and maybe a little bit of envy. So, men... if you're reading this... make a note, ALL women like flowers. ALL. Even those of us who say we don't really care for them... we still enjoy their company. 1. BLEND, BLEND, BLEND. You can use your everyday makeup, but use more than you normally use every day. Many makeup professionals use airbrush makeup, the method of choice for high-definition TV, because it's lightweight, waterproof and gives flawless coverage.

2. SOMETIMES LESS IS MORE. Use less makeup for a day wedding and more for evenings. You can get dramatic with eye makeup.

3. DON'T SKIMP ON CONCEALER. Use a moisturized concealer on the thin, sensitive skin under the eyes. If your concealer isn't moisturizing, blend it with a skin cream. For blemishes, first treat them with a natural or over-the-counter anti-inflammatory, then cover with concealer.

4. DO A MAKEUP TRIAL RUN. It's the only sure-fire, stress-free way to make certain your makeup will look beautiful. (A little side note from me... if you're doing a Bridal Session, this is the PERFECT time to trial run your makeup. That way you can see how the makeup will look in your photos too!)

5. NOT ALL MINERAL MAKEUP IS CREATED EQUAL. Titanium dioxide, a chemical used as sun block, can reflect flash, giving the bride a ghostly appearance. In 2009 makeup artist Annie May launched a line of mineral makeup especially formulated for photography called Advanced Mineral Makeup. May promises it won't white-out the bride under a flash.

6. USE WATERPROOF MAKEUP WITH STAYING POWER. You don't want to spend your reception in the bathroom reapplying your makeup. Foundation, eyeliner and mascara all should be waterproof. And in case you cry (and you probably will), have a tissue or handkerchief handy to gently blot your tears right at the eye.

7. KEEP YOUR LIPS MOISTURIZED AND COLORED. Dry lips look dreadful in photos. Have someone carry your lipstick for you and touch up often. Matte and gloss lipstick both photograph well, and be sure to use blended lip liner for enhanced definition.

8. DON'T FORGET THE GROOM. If the groom is red faced due to too much sun (or drinking), a little powder can help. That goes for shiny heads too. And it's a good idea to slip a tube of Chapstick in the groom's pocket for his dry lips, as well as a handkerchief to dab well-wishers' makeup smudges off his suit.

9. DON'T SPRINKLE ON GLITTER. In photographs, it tends to look like little white spots, as if there's something wrong with the camera.

10. REMEMBER to apply foundation and powder to your neck, shoulders and decolletage - you want your head to look like it belongs to your body!

So, I don't know if you guys are already 10 steps ahead of me, but I am just now finding out about this whole Yoga thing. I have been going for the past week and have fallen SO in love with it... it just might be an obsession now. If you've never done it... DO IT! Don't be afraid. That's what kept me from it for the longest time... but now, I have braved the first class and found something that makes me feel so much lighter, stronger, and just overall more awesome!

Black Swan is a studio off of 5th street downtown that is absolutely fabulous!! The instructors are great and the classes are a great workout. Each session is donation only, but they recommend you donate between $10-$15 per class. Bargain! So, check out their studio...

Changes for 2010

So many exciting changes have come my way! I am putting together a new website, have changed the company name, and created a new logo. There are other changes that are still coming, but I wanted to fill you guys in on what's going on now.

Hemera Nyx Photography is now Melissa Glynn Photography. I decided to change the name for several reasons, but the biggest reason being that Melissa Glynn is so much easier to say and spell than Hemera Nyx. Right?

Last Night in New York

Tonight was my last nigh in New York. We invited the whole fam over to do our gift exchange and play games. We had a blast and it was so nice to see everyone. I also did another photo session of Jackson in his "little gentleman" outfit.

The last few days in Rochester have been so relaxing. I've done a little shopping, hung out with the family, and got to enjoy the site of Jack opening his Christmas gifts I brought him. Honestly, he was more interested in the wrapping paper and boxes than the actual gifts, but I expected that. Here are several of my favorites from the past few days.

When I finally arrived to New York, I was picked up by my big sister (Yaicha) and her son, Jackson. It has been almost six months since I've seen them, and oh my goodness... Jackson is huge and so freakin' cute!!! Here are the photos of him at our last encounter. As soon as I got to their house, I got my camera out and started documenting everything. But my favorite part was when Todd got home (my brother-in-law) and played with Jackson and his new train. I'm afraid I went a little trigger happy. Here are a few... well... a TON of photos from my first day here. And, trust me... there are plenty more to come!

I got him this shirt so he'd know exactly where to find his Aunt Melissa.
